I think the Roots are by far one the most talented hip-hop artists in the world today. I bought their first album Phrenology when it came out and it really blew me away with its sheer energy.
It's dark, groovy and an almost sculptural rhythm going right back to the roots. Almost anyone can make a beat and rap to it, but these guys play their own stuff and it's never commercial or phoney.
