IThe Gotan Project is an unusual fusion between tango and downtempo. It brings together Argentinian musicians experimentés and some bright sparts from the French electronic scene (Philippe Cohen Solal and Christophe H Mueller).
They pretty much burst onto the scene in 2000 following a lot of air play from Gilles Peterson. Their delicate sound comprises violin, piano, double bass and an omnipresent bandonion to weave an authentic tango. They mainly produce an acoustic sound, but their albums consistently defy any particular musical classification.
