One of the few truly unique hip-hop artists to achieve commercial success last year is Kanye West. Starting as a producer, he eventually seized the opportunity to launch his own career. His beat making skills are full of recognisable samples and hooks. He is very much your everyman rapper, not a superstart rapper, if you know what I mean.
His debut album, The College Dropout was released in 2004, and straight away was a phenomenal success. He uses great lyrics, unique beats and some great rapping to get his messages across. Most tracks on the album are great in their own way and signs of some brilliance to come me thinks.
