Amy Winehouse.
Amy Winehouse was once expelled from London's Sylvia Young stage school where her class mates included Billie Piper, Matt Jay of Busted and Jon Lee of S Club 7. Now just turned 20, her album Frank has received the kind of reviews that come along only once in a career.
Winehouse has been complared to everyone from Lauryn Hill to Stevie Wonder. Her raspy vocals could have come from a smokey jazz bar in the 1940s yet her grooves have the subtle stamp of hip-hop. As most critics have noted, Winehouse's songs sound as if they come from a 60-something world-weary old lady, not a young girl. Her take on that:- "That's probably because I picked up a guitar when I was 13 and used to rehearse by imagining Tony Bennett was in the audience".
